Pottery: Pickleherring Pottery (Probably)
Tin-glazed earthenware ewer, painted in blue with a circular cartouche, surrounded by ribbon, scrolling foliage and a swag.
Pale buff earthenware (little visible), tin-glazed overall except for the underside of the edge of the foot, and painted in blue. The ewer stands on a circular foot with a sloping rim and domed centre. The hemispherical lower part is separated from the upper part by a horizontal rib, below which are nine bosses. The upper part has six shallow lobes and flares outward slightly towards the rim, which is pinched at the front to form a pointed lip. The loop handle has a vertical depression and a stumpy kick at the lower end. The front is decorated with a circular cartouche with a loop of ribbon at the top, scrolling foliage on each side, and a swag at the bottom, enclosing the initials 'C/T H' over '1660'.
