The bust has sometimes been attributed to Sir Richard Westmacott, R.A. (1775-1856) but the records of the Fitzwilliam Museum do not confirm this. It bears a close resemblance to a plaster bust in Chelmsford Museum (inv. no. 2008-197) which is inscribed across the back 'R: Trentanove Fece, Roma/1827' (the year when Disney was in Rome), a relationship which requires further investigation. Raimondo Trentanove was a pupil of Canova.
