Description

Thin wooden oar and shaft, broken near top. This example (and E.W.70e) are similar, both showing very faint traces of pigment. Unlike the larger examples within the group, both E.W.70d and E.W.70e are likely depicting oars operated by the boat crew. See MMA 20.3.1 for a comparison. The colouration on this example (with the oar itself being painted in white) corresponds to the colouration pattern of E.W.70d, where faint traces of what appears to be white pigment are present.

Wooden oar with shaft, broken near tip. Belonging to a group of five wooden oars (however the slipbook notes there are 6) of varying sizes and states of preservation, of which only one remains complete.
