Note

Robert Ransome (1753-1830) retired from his work as an agricultural-implement maker in Norfolk in 1825, after which he took up copper plate engraving as a recreational activity. The uneven preparation of the copper plate suggests that the plate was most likely engraved by him, although the suggested date 'c.1790' which is inscribed in a curatorial hand on a printed impression of the plate (see Notes), predates Ransome's presumed commencement of copper plate engraving in 1825.
