Note

Although the iconography resembles an ivory in the Domkammer of the Cathedral of St Paul at Münster, the style of carving is very different. In Dalton's Catalogue of the McClean Collection (1912), it was identified as Spainish, 16th century. In the catalogue of the British Fine Art Club exhibition (1923) it was stated that R. Koechlin regarded it as Wesphalian and compared it with the example at Münster.
