Painted for the occasion of Wearing’s collaborative 2025 exhibition with her her partner, the artist, Michael Landy: 'Michael Landy and Gillian Wearing: Art Lovers', (Thomas Dane Gallery, Naples, 4 February - 12 April 2025), until the title 'Michael, Self Portrait', subsequently changed by the artist to 'Michael, myself' upon acquisition by the Fitzwilliam Museum.
