Description

Ivory carved in the round. Full-face, wearing periwig, cravat and armour. His monogram, CT, is carved in relief on the left arm. The date, 1763, is engraved on the right shoulder.

Notes

History note: Sotheby's 13th December 1948, Catalogue of Objects of Vertu, Portrait Miniatures, Oriental hardstones, Ivories, Etc. .... (various properties), lot 28; purchased by H.E. Backer for £28 for the Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum, and given by them.
