Flower album - Tulips

Draughtsman: Bosschaert, Ambrosius, the younger

Album containing 65 flower drawings on paper tipped in on the pages of an album bound with old red Morocco, boards tooled in gold withh the arms and cipher of Queen Anne used between 1702 when she adopted the motto SEMPER EADEM by Royal Act, and 1707 when the Stuart Royal Arms were replaced by another, recognising the act of union with Scotland. The renewed spine tooled in gilt carries in each compartment a crowned monogram. The album has marbled end papers and the light-grey pages are interleaved with protective paper. The drawings are of various species of 'Variagated Tulip'. From the number of the sheets it appears that sheet Nos. 21, 37, 44, 61, and 65 have at some time been removed with the pages of the album.
