Pink Lotus
A watercolour drawing from the album PD.132-1973. This is a Chinese export watercolour depicting a pink lotus flower. There is a large, fully opened lotus flower on the left, painted in delicate shades of pink and deeper magenta. The center of the flower is a seed pod with visible yellow stamens surrounding a green central structure dotted with the typical lotus seed holes. The lotus leaves in green shades have brown edges. The painting demonstrates the fine brushwork characteristic of Chinese export art from the late 18th or early 19th century, combing traditional Chinese flower-and-bird painting style and Western botanical illustration.
