Description

Soft-paste porcelain vase, painted onglaze in blue, green, yellow, red, puce, purple and black enamels.

Soft-paste porcelain vase, painted onglaze in blue, green, yellow, red, puce, purple and black enamels. Fluted baluster form with flared and scalloped neck and spreading base. The lower part of the vase is decorated with a flowering branch rising from a rock, with a flying insect above; the neck is decorated with a bird. On the back is a floral spray and an insect on the lower part and a smaller spray on the neck. In a garniture of three vases (with C.47B-1992 and C.47C-1992).

Notes

History note: Dr and Mrs Hugh Statham; Dr Statham died 1967; Mrs Statham died 1970; their daughter, Miss Beryl Statham by whom lent anonymously in 1970. Bequeathed by Miss Statham, 1990, accepted by H.M. Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Note

The concensus of opinion is that these vases are Worcester, as no evidence has emerged for coloured decoration at Lund and Miller's Bristol factory.
