Soft-paste porcelain tea bowl and saucer, painted in polychrome enamels.
Soft-paste porcelain tea bowl and saucer, painted in polychrome enamel colours. Circular cup with slightly everted rim, moulded with 'pleats' and two large and two small scroll framed panels; footring. The two large panels are each decorated with Chinese 'Stag Hunt' pattern; and the two small panels with a floral sprig. Inside there are three rocks in the centre and puce scrolls encircling the rim. Saucer circular, moulded with 'pleats' radiating from a central medallion, and with two large and two small framed panels. Decorated en suite with the tea bowl.
History note: Dr and Mrs Hugh Statham; Dr Statham died 1967; Mrs Statham died 1970; their daughter, Miss Beryl Statham by whom lent anonymously in 1970. Bequeathed by Miss Statham, 1990, accepted by H.M. Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the Fitzwilliam Museum
