Soft-paste porcelain figure of an actor, possibly David Garrick, standing beside a pedestal
Soft-paste porcelain figure, an actor, possibly David Garrick. Glassy white soft-paste porcelain, slip-cast, and lead-glazed. The actor stands with his left hand on his breast, his right resting on an open book which is supported on a waisted socle moulded with the mask of Tragedy; he is bare-headed, with a cloak flung loosely over his partially unbuttoned jacket and knee breeches. Supported on a rectangular, straight-sided slab base.
History note: Bought from Mr Frank Stoner, November 10th 1919, for £18-10s by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trintity College, Cambridge.

This figure was attributed to Longton Hall, but it has recently been suggested that it could have been made at the Vauxhall Porcelain Factory. A coloured example, now attributed to Vauxhall, is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, see Documentation, Schreiber Collection.
