  • Text: This proof was printed by the late J Constable which he wiped with his silk pocket handkerchief and worked off at the rolling press / the result pleased him so much he repeated the attempt and the accompanying proof he also took [crossed] printed the only proofs he / took it was done in the year 1831 [altered by a later hand from the correct date: 1830] the signiture is marked by Mr Constable himself David Lucas
