Study for a vulture
Draughtsman: Unknown
History note: Earls of Warwick; (part of the Warwick Album, lot 127a, Sotheby's, 17 June 1936) (Lugt 2600); Ingram (Lugt 1405a)
Height: 232 mm
Width: 228 mm
Method of acquisition: Bequeathed (1963) by Ingram, Bruce Stirling, Sir
Previously attributed to the Flemish School, 17th Century, with a suggested attribution to Jan Fyt [1611-1661]. However PD.38-1963, clearly by the same hand, has a German inscription, so both drawings are most likely German. Attributions to Johann Ridinger (1695/98-1767) or Daniel Chodowiecki (1726-1801) have been suggested but both are unlikely as the drawing is most probably seventeenth century.
