The Magdalen, Mary and St John at the foot of the cross
Draughtsman: Crayer, Gaspar de (Attributed to)
History note: Palmerston, Clough
Height: 267 mm
Width: 189 mm
Relative size of this object is displayed using code inspired by Good Form and Spectacle's work on the British Museum's Waddeson Bequest website and their dimension drawer. They chose a tennis ball to represent a universally sized object, from which you could envisage the size of an object.
Method of acquisition: Given (1913) by Clough, G.T.
Formerly catalogued as 'follower of Sir Anthony Van Dyck'; Vlieghe rejected the attribution to de Crayer and thought the composition reflected the work of Lucas Franchoys the younger [1616-1681]; both Benesch and Keith Andrews suggested an attribution to Jan Boeckhorst [1605-1668]
