Description

Late Medieval maiolica jug, painted in black and copper-green with S hooks and lines.

Pale buff earthenware; the interior, lower part of the exterior and part of the base lead-glazed greenish-brown; the rest tin-glazed beige. Painted in black and copper-green.
Shape 8. Squat ovoid body with disk base, cylindrical neck, applied folded spout and strap handle.
The spout and handle are flanked by three vertical black lines forming side panels, each crossed by a row of reversed black S hooks between green lines edged in black. Below are two horizontal black bands; on the neck, three black and one green. On the spout there are horizontal lines of alternate colours, and, on the front, a green asterisk.
