Pottery: Unidentified Orvieto pottery
Late Medieval maiolica two-handled cup with lobed rim, painted in black and green with, on the inside, a lobed leaf.
Pale buff earthenware, tin-glazed greyish-beige on both sides; base unglazed. Painted in black and copper-green.
Shape 26. Circular with six-lobed rim, curved sides, narrow base and two loop handles.
Inside, within two concentric circles, there is a lobed leaf with a green centre surrounded by cross-hatching; on the outside, a wavy green line.
History note: Purchased from Kerin, London, on 9 December 1933 by H.S. Reitlinger (d. 1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
