Description

Late Medieval maiolica flagon, painted in black and relief-blue with oak leaves, berries and trefoil leaves between two horizontal bands of spots and strokes.

Flagon. Earthenware. The interior and exterior are thickly tin-glazed. Painted in black and very dark relief-blue.
Cylindrical with a horizontal rib above the foot, and another below the slightly flaring rim. The angular handle is a restoration.
The main field is decorated with a coiling stem bearing three upright oak leaves, with groups of berries hanging below and three trefoil leaves above. Below are two black bands, blue spots linked by groups of three strokes, and another black band. Above are similar spots and strokes between pairs of black bands.
