Clay bowl
Clay bowl, with rim painted red.
Clay bowl, wheelmade from Nile silt clay and painted with a red band around the rim. The base is rounded and the pot does not stand upright unaided. It is likely that it was supported by a stand or rope. From the Sanam cemetery, this type of pottery would have been used by people every day and here serves the purpose as a grave object to be used by the owner in the after life. The bowl is complete but there is a small section missing from the side. One side has smoke damage, perhaps from the kiln or where it was used close to a fire.
