Illustration for plate VI of Goez's 'The Horrors of War', conceived under the influence of the Wars of Austrian Succession. The Inscription on the bottom of the print for which this is the preparatory drawing can be translated thus: The God of Hell, Pluto, is full of shame and at the same time is afraid because of the flame which Mars makes on Earth; and he believes that a completely new Hell is created in his own Hell, because the fire makes so much noise.
