Clay bowl
Clay finger-modelled ladle or bowl.
Clay ladle bowl with burnished decoration. Made by modelling with fingers and burnished inside and outside. There is also a vertical rippling effect on the outside of the pot. The wall is drawn up on one side to create a hand grip. The rim is milled and the mouth is egg-shaped rather than circular but is stull perfectly symmetrical. Made from nile silt clay and fired to produce a dark black finish that is typical of early Nubian pottery. The walls are very thin measuring 3.0 mm. This type of pottery is known as A-type by archaeologists and this particular vessel dates to the middle or end of this period. The bowl has no damage to it, which is remarkable when its thin walls and age are considered.
