Description

Ibis statuette fixed onto a rectangular wooden base, with head and legs cast from bronze, and inserted into the wooden body. Likely a votive piece. A hole on the base in front of the Ibis suggests that there was another attachment to the base, but this is unclear if it original, or a later modification. It may have housed a kneeling figure, such as a priest, which is seen on other examples of similar statuary such as in the Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts (1947.8). This would further suggest that this was a votive piece.
