Description

Glazed steatite scarab, inscribed on the base with the title and name 'god's wife Hatshepsut'. This is a reference to the role of God's Wife of Amun, which first began in the Eighteenth Dynasty and continued until the Third Intermediate Period. The role was held by a female member of the royal family who was 'married' to the god Amun. There is a figure of a seated deity holding a flail.
