Clay cup
Clay cup or goblet, with decoration in white.
Clay cup or goblet; made out of an Egyptian Nile silt clay (Nile silt B) and with painted linear decoration in white, and random splashes of paint. The vessel was thrown on a wheel and there is a red wash outside. There is a single incised line around the middle. This is typical of a form of drinking cup of the so-called Ballana period of Nubian culture, in that he displays a simple red and white ware with geometric decoration. It is quite distinct from the so-called Meroitic material, which has more complex and often floral/pictoral designs. The vessel is complete. It was found in a grave in the cemetery of Qasr Ibrim (grave 193.151).
