Description

Fritware coated in a white glaze painted in lustre

Fritware coated in a white glaze painted with lustre

Fritware, wheel thrown and mould made, coated in white glaze painted with lustre.
Shape: globular body on a low foot ring, ascending to a cylindrical flange neck and everted rim.
Exterior: the rim is painted with a lustre band. On the neck, lustre dot and dash patterns are painted in concentric bands and on the upper body a frieze of racing hares is reserved in lustre above a lustre inscription. On the body, a central frieze of opposing birds in medallions is painted in lustre and alternate with arabesques are reserved in lustre. On the lower body sketchy arabesques are reserved in lustre. Glaze covers the surface to the lower body and foot ring where it terminates unevenly.
Interior: lustre band continues on the rim, glaze terminates just below the rim.
