Pearlware plate transfer-printed underglaze in blue with 'Long Bridge' pattern
White earthenware, moulded, transfer-printed in cobalt-blue, under slightly blue tinted lead-glaze (pearlware). The plate is circular with eight shallow scallops round the edge, a narrow rim, curved sides and almost flat centre. The well is occupied by a version of the Chinese-style 'Willow Pattern', known as 'Long Bridge' pattern, which features two figures crossing a bridge between two buildings, a boat in the forground, two very small boats on the water between the bridge and a distant island at the top of the scene. A narrow honeycomb border encircles the scene, and on the rim there is a wider Chinese-style border incorporating panels of diaper patterns, interspersed with foliage.

The Leeds Pottery opened in 1780. The date of the introduction of transfer-printing underglaze in blue has not been discovered, but by 1791 the factory was in possession of copper plates which were used for printing the designs to be transferred to the ware. Marks are not common on Leeds Pottery.
