Description

Fritware coated in a white or blue glaze painted with lustre

Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in a white glaze on the exterior, and blue glaze on the interior, painted in lustre.
Shape: bulbous, ovoid body ascending via a carination onto a slightly concave neck with everted rim. A handle, with small thumb rest, is attached to the neck and body. Sits on a flaring foot ring base.
Exterior: on the neck jewel like motifs, with central vertical line, are reserved in lustre. Spandrels containing dots and dashes hang from the decoration on the neck, while on the body lustre dotted stars are painted in a symmetrical pattern. The upper section and sides of the handle are painted with lustre, the lower section is painted with an inscription. A palmette leaf is painted on the body below the handle. Glaze terminates on the exterior foot ring, where it runs over the surface unevenly.
Interior: a lustre band is painted on the rim; the remainder of the surface is undecorated except for a thin blue glaze.
