White earthenware, transfer-printed in blue under slightly blue tinted lead-glaze
White earthenare transfer-printed underglaze blue under slightly blue tinted lead-glaze. Cylindrical with broad body with an concave band above the base, and loop handle. On one side is a view entitled 'YORK MINSTER ON FIRE FEBY 2nd 1829' (the Y and nd raised); and on the other, flanked by shackles, a portrait identified as 'JONATHAN MARTIN the INCENDIARY TRIED MARCH 31st 1829 before Mr. BRON HULLOCK AND SENTENCED TO CONFINEMENT DURING HIS MAJESTY'S PLEASURE (the st of 31st raised). Inside there is a border of Gothic tracery.
