Hunting Jug
Production: Smith, Thomas, potter (Probably)
Salt-glazed stoneware, the neck and shoulders dipped in brown, decorated with applied hunting and other sprigs, and inscribed on the front 'HERES TO THE MINE HONEST FRIEND/ HOPING THOSE HARD TIMES TO MEND/ J.D.
Stoneware, thrown, with applied moulded sprigs and impressed inscription, the upper part dipped brown, and salt-glazed. Ovoid body with flat base, cylindrical neck pinched at the front to create a projecting spout, and strap handle with TO BE COMPLETED
History note: Mrs Dawkins' sale at her house in Newmarket Road, Cambridge; Mr Woolston, Cambridge, from whom purchased for £2 on 29 November 1906.

Attributed to Fulham by Rackham, but probably made by Thomas Smith who was at Princes Street, Lambeth c. 1836-67 and then moved to the Old Kent Road.
The initials JD may stand for J.Dawkins
The second initial may stand for Dawkins. The jug had been sold by a Mrs Dawkins, a widow, whose first husband had for a time kept a public house.
