Description

Fritware coated in a white and colourless glaze, painted with lustre

Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in a white and colourless glaze, painted wth lustre
Shape: hemispherical bowl with plain rim, sits on a wide foot ring
Interior: on the body four panels contain seated figures wearing dotted robes and surrounded by half palmettes, all reserved in lustre. These panels are divided by vertical bands containing jewel like motifs surrounded by dots and dashes, all painted in lustre. In the roundel a circular chequer board pattern is dotted around the edge. An impurity in the glaze has resulted in pitting in one area.
Exterior: the rim is painted with a band of lustre above simple lustre palmettes on the body. Glaze covers the surface terminating unevenly on the foot ring. The underside of the foot ring is coated with a thin layer of colourless glaze.
