Description

Buff earthenware, tin-glazed and painted in blue. The jug stands on a disk base and has a bulbous body, a short narrow neck, and a strap handle with a V-shaped lower terminal. The front is painted with a shield-shaped cartouche enclosing the initials and date ' B/R.M/1640'

Notes

History note: Said to have belonged to a farmer in the West Country; bought an unknown purchaser who sold it to Mrs Charlotte E.I. Watson, from whom purchased for £15 on 18 January, 1917 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
