Description

Maiolica coffee pot and cover, painted onglaze in enamels with sprays of flowers.

Cream earthenware, tin-glazed overall. Painted onglaze in blue, green, yellow, dark purplish-pink, and brown enamels, with restoration in pale pink.
Piriform with lightly lobed and fluted sides, spout in the shape of a griffin's head, and S-shaped handle moulded with scrolls above and below a central knop. The domed cover has a bud finial and an internal flange fitting inside the neck of the pot.
On each side of the body there is a spray of flowers, beneath the spout a small spray, and on the handle side, four smaller ones. On one side there is an insect near the rim. The spout is coloured overall in yellow, green and brown, and the beak is outlined in dark purplish-pink. The rim is encircled by a brown line. The scrolls on the handle are outlined in dark pink. The cover is decorated with two floral sprays. Its rim is outlined in dark pink and there are touches of dark pink on the finial.
