Pottery: Norfolk House
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue
Buff earthenware, thrown, with applied handle, tin-glazed and painted in blue; most of the glaze has been removed from the base. The mug has a cylindrical neck, a depressed globular body, and a slightly convex disk base. The loop handle is of oval section with a rolled terminal. The body is decorated with a long label framed by a narrow and a wide blue line with a scalloped line running round the outer edge and three leaves at each corner. This bears the inscription ':GOD:BLES:KING:WILIAM:&:Q MARY:' Below the rim there is a horizontal line with alternately long and short pointed leaves projecting downwards from it.
History note: Mr S. Richards of Nottingham from whom purchased on 15 December, 1906 for £14.10s.0d. by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
