Fritware with slip decoration coated in white glaze painted in blue, brown and turquoise and leaf gilded
Fritware, wheel thrown and decorated with slip, covered in an opaque cream glaze painted in the glaze in blue, brown and turquoise, over the glaze in black and leaf gilded.
Shape: hemispherical bowl with a collared rim and a low, wide foot ring.
Interior: on the neck, a pair of blue concentric bands contains a guilloche pattern created using piped slip. Radiating from the base a star shape, formed using piped slip, terminates on the body where it forms part of a frieze of turquoise hearts and blue commas of differing size. Both on the neck and in the frieze on the body, evidence of gilding remains in small patches, particularly visible on the painted areas.
Exterior: the rim is painted with a turquoise band, while on the neck, a frieze of blue calligraphy is decorated with turquoise foliage which is outlined in black and surrounded by brown dots. Cream glaze runs unevenly over the foot ring.
