Description

Fritware painted in polychrome under a colourless glaze

Fritware, probably mould made, painted in red slip, blue, turquoise and black under a colourless glaze.
Shape: segmental bowl with angled flange rim, sits on a low, wide foot ring.
Interior: all designs are outlined in black. On the rim a meandering scroll of white stems and red and white split leaf palmettes, with inward curving tips, is reserved in blue. On the body, painted in blue and red on a turquoise ground, a symmetrical floral spray incorporates carnations, rosettes and broad ‘saz’ leaves with central stem of red prunus flowers, all arranged around an arabesque.
Exterior: undecorated except for the glaze that covers the surface except for the rim of the foot ring.
