Chares II and Catherine of Braganza
Production: unidentified London pottery
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, yellow, brown and manganese-purple
Reddish-buff earthenware tin-glazed, and painted in blue, yellow, brown and manganese-purple. Circular with flat centre and deep almost straight sides with an applied horizontal lug pierced by three holes. In the middle there are half-length figures of Charles II and his queen, Katherine of Braganza holding hands within an oval medallion beneath an arch. Above their heads are the initials CR and KR.
History note: Unidentified sale at Puttick & Simpson, London; bought by an unnamed dealer for £26 who sold it to Mr Stoner for £28 on 3 December 1909 from whom purchased for £32 on 3 December 1909 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
