Pottery: unidentified London pottery
Tin-glazed erthenware painted in blue and yellow with the arms of the Vintners' Company
Yellowish-buff earthenware, tin-glazed and painted in blue and yellow. The goblet has a deep bucket-shaped bowl with an incurved band at the bottom, supported on a tall stem with a ball-shaped knop in the middle, rising from a circular shallow-stepped foot. The front is decorated with the arms of the Vintners' Company, and on the other side there are two Chinese figures holding a flag and a bottle in an oriental landscape with trees, rocks and plants, to the left of which is the inscription 'IR/1672'.
History note: Mr Rochelle Thomas, London; no. 293 in his Clearance Catalogue April 1923 received by Glaisher on 21 April when he was at Bournemouth, and bought on 25 April 1923 for £10 (reduced from £20).
