Buff earthenware tin-glazed and painted in blue, olive-green, yellow, and bluish-black. Circular with a sloping rim, curved sides and flat centre. Decorated in the middle with a rose spray, a thistle stem with two leaves, and a crown flanked by the initials A R, enclosed by two narrow blue concentric circles. On the sides there is a border of blue interlacing lines between narrow blue bands.
History note: Charles Brown, Oxford Street, nr Tottenham Court Road, from whom purchased for £2.10 or £3 about 1903 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
