Production: Brislington Pottery (Probably)
Tin-glazed earthenware wall plaque. Slightly convex on the upper side, concave on the underside. Pierced with two holes above the lower ledge before firing. Greenish glaze, pooling and wrinkled on the back. Decorated with a border of flowers and tendrils, enclosing an inscription in blue:
'WEALTHEAN/ FRANCIS OF THE / PARRISH OF PONTAPOOL/ DEPARTED THIS LIFE/ THE 31TH DAY OF OCTOBER/ AN DOM 1692'.
History note: Mr J. Kyrle Fletcher who sold it to Mr Harold Davis. Sent by Davis on approval to Cambridge on 8 October 1928 and bought for £45 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.

Wealthean was a girl’s name popular in certain families from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. Pontapool was an alternative spelling for Pontypool in Monmouthshire. This suggests that the panel was made in Brislington or Bristol, rather than London.
