Production: Unidentified Bristol pottery (Probably)
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue with a portrait of George I
Buff earthenware, tin-glazed greyish-white and painted in blue. Circular with a narrow rim, shallow curved sides and flat centre, standing on a footring. In the middle there is a circular medallion framed by two narrow concentric circles enclosing a half-length figure of George I wearing a crown and ermine robe, and holding a sceptre, with a crescent-shaped blue lower background. On either side of his head on a white ground are the initials G and R.The medallion is surrounded by scattered floral sprays and sprigs. The rim has a border of solid oval spots alternating with pairs of open circles. On the back at the junction of rim and well there are five groups of four spots alternating with single spots.
