Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue with a waggon in a landscape

Buff earthenware, tin-glazed bluish-white, and painted and sponged in blue. Circular with a sloping rim, shallow well and flat underside. Painted over the whole surface with a landscape enclosed by a narrow circle. In the middle a covered waggon drawn by four horses is travelling to the left. The waggoner carries his whip over his shoulder and walks to the left near a pond in the foreground, flanked by low bushes and on the left, a fence. In the distance there is a small group of buildings on a hill flanked by sponged trees. On the back there is a heart-shaped outline enclosing the initials and date 'F.H/1723'.
