Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue and yellow
Buff earthenware, thrown, tin-glazed and painted in blue. Circular with curved sides standing on a footring. The inside is decorated with an inscription 'To, Granby,/The, Brave,' within a narrow border of lines and spotted oval motifs, and with a different border of stylized plant motifs below the rim. The exterior is decorated in Chinoiserie style with a man seated beside a table and a figure standing to his left beside a building repeated three times, separated by figure-of-eight shaped scrolled panels. The rim is encircled by a yellow band
History note: Said to have come from Langtoft Hall, near Market Deeping; the Sandell family (farm labouring people) of Thurlby near Bourne, Lincs; bought by Mr Hagger of Grimsby, who sold it via/or to his brother, Mr Hagger, antique dealer of Saffron Walden,who sold it on 17 December 1908 for £3S to Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
