Jug from a Toy Tea Set

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue with a landscape

Buff earthenware, thrown,with applied handle, tin-glazed bluish-white and painted in blue. The jug is piriform with a projecting lip and loop handle of oval section. The sides are decorated with a landscape with houses and trees beside a river or lake, and there is a border of waves below the rim. The handle is horizontally striped.


History note: Mr Stewart Acton,10 a East Street, Brighton, from whom purchased on 16 November 1923 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
