Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue and manganese with Cupid, a young man, flowers, and inscription
Buff earthenware, tin-glazed and painted in blue and manganese-purple. In the form of a high-heeled shoe mounted with a hinged metal cover for use as a box. On the upper part of the front of the shoe there is a shaped panel enclosing a flying Cupid holding a bow and arrow above a man with bare legs, apparently holding his clothes about him. On the left are the initials and date ‘IW 1763’. The sides, back, and heel are decorated with flowers reserved in a blue ground. The underside of the heel and sole are manganese-purple.
