Tin-glazed earthenware painted in polychrome with The Temptation and a blue-dash border
Buff earthenware, the front tin-glazed and painted in blue, turquoise-green, yellow, and brownish-red, and sponged in blue. The reverse is coated with a pale slip and a pale brown tin-glaze. Circular with a wide sloping rim, and shallow curved well, standing on a footring. The front is decorated with Adam and Eve on either side of the Tree of Knowledge which is entwined by the Serpent. On each side there is a sponged tree and in the foreground blue plants on a green ground. Round the edge there is a blue circle, a yellow circle and blue dashes.
History note: Unknown, probably acquired c. 1900-1905 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
