Description

Tin-glazed earthenware dish decorated with William III, initialled W R above, crowned, and wearing coronation robes, standing between half trees; yellow band and blue dash border.

Buff earthenware, the front tin-glazed, and painted in blue, dark green, yellow, orange, and manganese-purple; the back covered with thin bluish lead-glaze. Circular with everted rim and curved sides, standing on a footring. Decorated with a standing figure of William III bewigged, and wearing a crown, an ermine-lined robe, garters and shoes with bows, and holding an orb and sceptre. Below his hands is an unidentified object,with scales, perhaps a purse. Inscribed on either side above his head are the letters W and R. On each side there are by dark green half fir-trees, and in the foreground broad green and yellow stripes. The rim is encircled by a yellow band and blue dashes. On the reverse, indistinctly inscribed '16 . 94'.
