Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, yellow, and manganese with a bust of James II surrounded by a border of stylised flowers and foliage. Initialled J R with 2 above the R

Earthenware, the front tin-glazed pale blue, and painted in blue, yellow, and manganese-purple; the back covered with semi-transparent bluish lead-glaze. Circular with a wide sloping rim, and curved well, standing on a footring. Three spur marks in the middle. Decorated in the middle with a bust portrait of James II wearing coronation robes, and flanked by the initials J R with a 2 above the R. The rim is decorated with four stylized flowers with stylized leaves between them.
