Cream fritware with painted and pierced decoration under a clear glaze

Cream fritware, wheel thrown, with blue and black underglaze paint and a pierced frieze on the upper body, all covered with a clear glaze, heavily crazed in places.
Shape: Finely potted biconical bowl with a carination on the lower body; plain rim and moderately high foot ring.
Interior: Band of Arabic script (cursive) around the rim, painted in reserve against a black background. On the upper body an open-work frieze, comprising pierced holes forming arabesques, is enclosed between two black painted concentric lines. On the base, a cross-shaped floral design is painted in blue with black highlighting. Three spur marks are visible on the base resulting from stacking, using trivets, during firing.
Exterior: Rim has a repeating crescent shape pattern in black below which the upper body is decorated with the reverse pierced pattern, designed to be viewed from the interior. A wide concentric line is painted in black on the lower body. The transparent glaze covers the body to the foot ring.
