Description

Fritware with carved decoration under a clear glaze

Fritware, wheel thrown with carved decoration under a clear, highly crazed glaze
Shape: conical bowl, finely potted, with a plain rim and a disc base cut away on the underside
Interior: Incised into the surface of the upper body, under the glaze, a frieze of scrolling stems with leaves is enclosed above and below by a pair of concentric lines. Another concentric line is incised at the point where the body meets the foot.
Exterior: glaze runs over the surface onto the lower body.
