Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, red, and green with a landscape

Buff earthenware, thrown, tin-glazed and painted in blue, red, and green. The cirular bowl has deep almost straight sides and stands on a footring. The exterior is decorated with continuous Chinese marine landscape including a man fishing from a boat, a house, rocks, trees, and small plants. A narrow red line and a wider blue band encircle the rim.

History note: Purchased at a house in the neighbourhood by Mr Morley of Cambridge, from whom bought about 1893 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher FRS. Trinity College, Cambridge
